I did this project as a part of my job at Brandpa design, Hyderabad. 

My role was to participate in 

UX analysis ( empathize, define and ideate), creates a logo and finally create designs.

About

 

We define “DataSkills” as an ed-tech website that provides a seamless learning experience to anyone who wants to gain advanced skills in key Office programs and become a certified Microsoft office specialist.

Provide an e-learning platform where students and professionals can learn at their own pace and get certified.

This process relies heavily on teamwork and documentation, and with that, it will drive the rest of the design process. Communication, collaboration, and iteration were the three main ingredients when creating our design solutions for the app.

 Mid-level managers who book courses for their teams

3. Attend classes and get certified without any hindrance.

A stakeholder interview was conducted to understand the business needs. 

Research

 

Survey

An online survey was also conducted to understand the user pain points and 47 responses were recorded.

91% of participants say that they would like to choose their batch timing based on their comfort.

80% of participants say that they want to take a self-paced course as they are working professionals.

82% participate wants to give an online test and get certified.

61% of participants would like to take a course where they can be mentored by experts who help them prepare for their job interviews.

  • We have interviewed 15 participants to understand their needs, behaviors, and motivations. 

​

  • Rather than asking questions, we have asked each participant to watch DataSkills advanced excel video in front of us and tell us your observations as well as things you would like to improve. Based on the themes/patterns we have created an empathy map.

Amisha Patel

Age : 26 years

Hometown :  Hyderabad, India

Occupation :  Media buyer

Amisha is a media buyer. She was taking an offline course of Advanced excel from Dataskills as that would be an excellent skill for her to get promoted but after a sudden fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic, she is unable to continue her classes.

Goals 

1. To get an online platform to continue her classes.

2. To take classes at her own pace and get certified.

3. To be able to ask doubts, get notes and assignments, get notified regarding the latest updates, check course details and take a demo class before buying the course.

Frustrations

1. Unable to take classes due to pandemic. 

2. Wants to take courses at her own pace as she is working.

Kunal Goswami

Age : 44 years

Education :  MBA

Hometown :  Patna, India

Occupation :  Manager

Kunal is a manager at a finance company in Patna, India. The

company deals with a lot of data and they decided to buy an online course in Power BI for their team. Kunal is searching for a course for his team.

Goals

1. To find a course in Power BI

2. To check the authenticity of the company providing the course.

3. To check course reviews and details

4. To check trainers and get offers and discounts.

5. Check the performance of employees after buying the course.

1. Difficult to schedule a demo class.

2. Difficult to compare online courses.

3. Want courses in the company's budget.

Usability study

 

Study type - Unmoderated usability study

Participants : 5

Location - India, Remote

Length : 30 minutes

Usability study findings -

 

Although 6/6 participants were able to complete given tasks successfully, they suggested few changes.

 

Based on the themes, here are the insights:

 

  • Users want to get notified on their registered email and phone regarding important updates.

  • Users want a discount if they buy multiple courses together.

Dataskills is a startup so it's very important to promote the brand from the outset. Showing trainers details, student testimonials, awards and achievements will help to gain credibility.

Provide necessary course details for a better conversion rate.

A detailed description of the course along with demo videos, course rating, mentor details, syllabus, price plans, certificate details, and FAQ has been provided so that the user can check all the necessary details and clarify their doubts before purchasing the course.

Goal 3

 

Provide a personal space to the user to access purchased courses.

User dashboard has been provided with ongoing and completed tabs so that students can access the purchased courses. Apart from it all other secondary functions - profile. settings, account, purchase and transaction history, help, logout have been provided in a dropdown menu under profile icon.

Reflections

 

  • No project is ideal. There are so many possibilities to make it better and better with multiple iterations.

  • Feedback plays a very important role in design. It helps to make a project better and better. 

​

  • Peers are important - Designing an experience with team members makes it easy to analyze things from different perspectives and makes it fun.
